The End of America?

Like many American's, I am bewildered and troubled by yesterday's Health Care vote. It is very easy to feel heavy-hearted and angry when I think about the direction this country is headed. Yes, my imagination tells a fearful story of America plunging to its doom in the same way that the ancient Roman Empire did.

     But there is hope.

Not in Washington. I have very little hope that our nation will ever be the same as it was in the time of our Founding Fathers. I am not saying it is impossible; just that I place little confidence in our present leaders.

My hope is found in only one place, or rather, one Person. He is the only perfect One to trust.

I truthfully believe that every form of government will eventually fail unless its people and its leaders know God as Supreme. No amount of laws will stop sinful people from doing sinful things; only Jesus can do that. No amount of politicians will be able to make good decisions all the time if their worldviews are flawed; only Jesus can give us new eyes that see clearly. No amount of money can heal every illness; only Jesus brings peace to the hurting. Jesus is the only Solid Rock.

America may one day be destroyed. That is the stark reality. But God is the King of kings. No matter where we are, no matter what happens, He is with us.

As Believers in Christ we are "convinced that neither death nor life... neither the present nor the future, nor any powers... nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Rom. 8:38-39) There is no fear in God's infinite love for us.

This is not to say that we should sit back and watch our country crumble. We have been given the gift of freedom. Let us use it while we still can! But use it for the sake of the future generations, and not out of fear.

Come wind, waves, or fire... come terrorists, national debt, or Obamacare... God is firmly seated on His throne, and nothing can make Him walk away.

Good post. I think something people don't realize is that the republicans[in the house] were true to my hope[and trust], not one single republican in the house, not sure about the senate, voted for this bill.

Tag, Steadfast! I just commented on your Health Care post! Funny.

That is reassuring to know. Maybe we won't have to move out of the country just yet. ;)

Thanks for sharing the hope Storyteller! It is really good to be reminded that just because this happened God is still in control of every thing.

The destruction of America is inevitable. Greed has once again over ridden the will of the people via rubbing out free will. It hides from behind a vale of lies and misleading 'hope' and 'change'. The tides are once again retreating and another flood will be upon us; not one of water but one of retaliation of the people's will.

Government is illogical; no man is greater than another -- no man's voice is louder than another's -- for no man is fit to rule mankind. God is not man, mortal, nor is he machine. He acts through the people in-order to enforce his rule. The government is meant to serve US, not the businesses that have plunged us into darkness.

Excellent post... it IS easy to be angry and discouraged about last night... but thanks for reminding us where our hopes and attentions should be: in the Rock that will never leave us or forsake us, despite whatever may happen here on earth.

(I liked your post so much I'm putting the link on Facebook! ;-])

Here here, Storyteller! Ye speak the truth. For we Christians, all things, health care bill included, will ultimately be for our good.

Similar thoughts ran through my head last night. In the end, our jars of clay break. All that matters is where our treasure lies.

This is wonderful reading everyone's thoughts! Amen, amen, AMEN!

Thanks so much for posting this, ST. It's really hard, well for me at least, to remember that God's the one in control of our government. And praise God that He is!

I quite agree.

And I also want to add:
God sets all rulers in place. He controls who rules what, when, and where. I honestly don't like our president, but God placed him in that position of authority for a reason. A reason that, I think, He has yet to reveal.
"For by Him all things were created: ...whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by Him and for Him." - Colossians 1:16

You are so right, Celebrilomiel! Thank you for the reminder.

Very good reminder, ST. I was so busy I was unable to do a post on this too, but I think I'll have time today. I can't help but say I am infuriated that our leaders (who are supposed to be working for US) are walking all over us and ignoring what we have to say.

In other news, I tagged you. =D Visit http://thestuffundermybed.blogspot.com/2010/03/ive-been-tagged.html to see what you have to do.
